OFF-SOCIAL Day 1

social media Apr 29, 2025

This series of blogs is 100% produced without AI and it aims to help people relate to the modern addiction of social media. I hope you enjoy the journey (how long that lasts...)

I am a content creator. I work with social media. Everything I do runs through social media. Yet, I quit. Why?

I don't think I have a clear why yet. Maybe I never will. But I believe there are millions of people out there who are suffering the downfall of this terrible addiction and would relate to what you will find in these blogs. I'm experimenting (for now). I thought I would give myself 30 days. This is day 1 and I already feel it's going to be more than 30.

The goal of this blog series is to describe what I'm feeling, almost like a journalling of a recovering addict and consequently, provide some comfort to the readers who might be feeling the same or similar. There is no right or wrong order here. It will get messy. It problably won't be the best piece of blog you have ever read. I'm ok with that. Because at the end of the day, this is me, talking to myself outloud, wishing it will reach someone, and facing the challenge of doing that without either corrupting myself with the poison of SEO words, or boasting about it on social media platforms (that would be a contradiction, wouldn't it?).

So, let's get the train moving. Day 1:

The feeling:

I didn't cut all forms of social media today. I've been on the online mode for far too long and I have to be wise about it. So I took my clues from heavier drug patients and started cutting one by one. As a matter of fact, my only drug was instagram. I don't really use anything else. And youtube is definitely a study tool for me. My real stuff is in there and I spend a good portion of my time researching there too, afterall, it is the second biggest search engine in the world. So I thought I would start with a drastic cut, but not a "cancel everything" campaign, mainly because I want to communicate what's going on with the 3 people who follow my instagram 😅.

So I set my limit: 20 minutes per day! Honestly, I feel like a hero! I have overcome! But I know this feeling is temporary. The withdrawal is coming and the wave will hit hard once it comes. I haven't really felt the need to access it during the first day. I guess I need a longer break to see or feel any difference.

Once thing is noticeable: No one cares about me, or you for the matter. At least during the first day, no one noticed I had disappeared. So I used my 20 minutes to quickly answer any potential DMs as I have automations going on, check if there was anything I missed that could potentially save the world from WWIII or if there was anything that could fill my stomach and blood vessels with dopamine in 20 minutes. NOTHING!

So I did my brief little story, the only one for the day and left it. Bye Instagram.

What about you?

Well, if you're trying to quit social media and you're going through the same challenges, I would suggest you don't be dramatic. Reduce first, ease the dose and then cut it off. I know everyone is different, but the reality is, you got time. And it doesn't feel like social media is moving or going anywhere, so relax. We could start a conversation about the effects and potential of social media but that will pop up on another blog post, I'm sure of it.

What now?

Well, I will be posting again tomorrow, or soon... It's alright if I skip a day or two, I'm not trying to perform to anyone. This is more a sort of journal for me. I might turn this into a book later on and it could help people quit social media, who knows?

So I'll see you soon.

PS: If you would like to consume my content and are wondering how to do that now that I'm off line, don't worry, you can still go on my website: www.pedroonpurpose.live. If you navigate the website with patience, you will find everything you need there, from Youtube Channel to my books and masterclasses.
